Coral Swap

hi guys, im new to the forum but not the hobby. I have had my marine set up for about 3- 4 years now, I stumbled across this forum by accident to be honest but im impressed. I have heard about fragging before but not knowing anything about it i just never thought any more about it. Ive been reading a few posts on here an know a little more about it but not enough to be brave enough to try it lol!

i want to know every little detail before trying it. Mainly due to spending soo much money at the lfs on corals i dont want to kill any !!
I only have soft corals at the moment is there any you can't frag ?

hi mate welcome to the site. i think we all have had the same thoughts as you before we cut up the most expensive plants on the planet lol!

but dont worry it is as easy as it sounds and soft corals can take a real battering. have a look on youtube there quite a few videos on there form spotty teenagers which made me think if they can then so can i.

so get the sissors and the elastic bands out and start sharing ur tank lol!

i intend to start sharing out no worries there dude, do most ppl just use there main tank to keep the frags in ? or have a second setup just for frags?

At the moment I have frags in my main display on the substrate. I have recently used some coral cradles to frag some zoanthus see below. I am hoping that they use the coral cradles okay. I also have made some coral sand plugs on top of the coral cradles to see if that helps with settlement (not shown)

A separate tank is by far the best way of doing this as it cleans up your display and it allows for many more frags to be produced. Also if the frag tank is plumbed into the same system this helps with acclimatisation of the frags after they have been mounted.

In the picutre you can see some gorg frags in the background and you can see a pavona which has had chips taken off whioch are also stuck to coral cradles I am hoping these frags will grow over the coral cradle. The mother colony was grown from a small frag which was grown onto a piece of ultralith stone.

just try to put them in a low flow area for a week or so so they dont get battered.

oh and this is a matter of personal choice but if you can use elastic bands insead of super glue.

Welcome to the forum.
As has been said,everyone is scared when they first start fragging but as time goes by it just gets easier and easier.
I started by using my nano for a few frags then went to a Rio 180 and now have upgraded to a 6 foot frag tank.

Welcome to the forum!! Im not sure if this is true, but i think you can frag every coral?? Im not certain on this one though!!
